Buster + Punch HEX: Industrial Edge, Refined

A handle is a small detail, but its form, finish and feel can influence how a space is experienced. It is where design meets touch, and where even the most functional elements of an interior can make a statement.

On 14 October, we welcomed Buster + Punch founder Massimo Buster Minale to Circa Studio for an exclusive first look at the new HEX collection. Builders, architects, designers and members of the Bowens team joined us to explore the collection firsthand and hear from Massimo about the story behind the brand and the years of development that have gone into bringing HEX to life.

Drawing on the world of custom motorcycles and industrial design, HEX takes Buster + Punch's familiar aesthetic in a new direction. The result is bold and sculptural, with a sense of refinement that feels distinct from the brand's previous collections.

The hexagonal forms give the collection its defining geometry, while knurled detailing introduces texture and references the machined components associated with motorcycle culture. These elements feel purposeful, bringing precision and character to everyday hardware. There is a rawness to the industrial influence, but it is balanced by a more considered approach to form and proportion.

What stood out most was the balance between substance and restraint. The pieces feel solid and weighty in the hand, yet their construction and proportions prevent them from feeling cumbersome or overpowering within a space. HEX has a strong visual presence without demanding attention, bringing together angular geometry and tactile detail in a way that feels surprisingly organic. It is this contrast that makes the collection so compelling: industrial in its roots, sculptural in its expression and refined in its overall effect.

The materiality is just as considered. Experiencing the collection in person brings the smooth surfaces, substantial feel and quality of the finishes into focus. Of particular note was the combination of smoked bronze and brass. The warmth and depth of these tones complement the collection's bold forms, creating a rich, layered finish that feels confident without being overstated. Against the sharper geometry and knurled details, the combination introduces a sense of warmth that softens the industrial character.

It is a reminder that architectural door hardware is about more than function. The shape of a handle, the texture under the fingertips, and the relationship between contrasting finishes can all contribute to the wider material palette of an interior. These are details encountered every day, yet their impact extends beyond the point of touch, helping to establish continuity, contrast, and character throughout a project.

During the preview, Massimo spoke about the history of Buster + Punch and the years of work behind HEX. Hearing about the collection's development offered a glimpse into the thinking behind a design that pushes the brand's established language into new territory. The time invested in its creation is reflected in the considered relationship between form, material and detail, with each element contributing to the overall character of the collection.

For us at Circa Studio, this is what makes exploring new collections in person so valuable. It allows us to look beyond the initial impression and appreciate the finer details that distinguish one design from another, while considering how a product might sit within a broader architectural scheme.

HEX offers a fresh expression of Buster + Punch, retaining the industrial edge that defines the brand while introducing a more sculptural and refined sensibility. It was a pleasure to share the first look with our design and building community, and we thank Massimo Buster Minale, the Buster + Punch team and everyone who joined us at Circa Studio for the afternoon.
