Hydrowood
More than simply introducing a new product range, the evening celebrated one of Australia's most extraordinary material stories. Recovered from the submerged forests of Tasmania's Lake Pieman, Hydrowood gives new life to rare native species that have remained preserved beneath the water for decades. Celery Top Pine, Blackwood, Myrtle, Huon Pine and Sassafras each tell a story of resilience, craftsmanship and thoughtful stewardship.
Against the backdrop of growing conversations around responsible forestry, material provenance and sustainable specification, guests were immersed in a presentation exploring Hydrowood's unique recovery process and its architectural applications. The response was overwhelmingly positive, with attendees captivated by both the environmental credentials and the exceptional beauty of the timber itself.
The undeniable hero of the evening was an extraordinary four-metre slab of Celery Top Pine displayed prominently through the studio. Freshly recovered and beautifully milled, its warm character, intricate grain and unmistakable aroma transported guests to the forests from which it originated. It quickly became the focal point of conversation, inviting visitors to touch, examine and experience the material in its most authentic form.
Complementing the launch was a curated exhibition of furniture by Dan Barker x Bricolage Studio, showcasing the versatility and craftsmanship possible with Hydrowood's reclaimed species. Each piece demonstrated how these remarkable timbers move effortlessly between furniture, joinery and architectural applications, reinforcing their value beyond traditional timber products.
