Hydrowood

A remarkable story of craftsmanship, conservation and Australian timber was unveiled at Circa Studio, as architects, interior designers, furniture designers and builders gathered for the official launch of Hydrowood – now available exclusively through Circa and Bowens.

More than simply introducing a new product range, the evening celebrated one of Australia's most extraordinary material stories. Recovered from the submerged forests of Tasmania's Lake Pieman, Hydrowood gives new life to rare native species that have remained preserved beneath the water for decades. Celery Top Pine, Blackwood, Myrtle, Huon Pine and Sassafras each tell a story of resilience, craftsmanship and thoughtful stewardship.

A sustainable solution.

Against the backdrop of growing conversations around responsible forestry, material provenance and sustainable specification, guests were immersed in a presentation exploring Hydrowood's unique recovery process and its architectural applications. The response was overwhelmingly positive, with attendees captivated by both the sustainability story and the extraordinary beauty of the timber.

A standout feature of the evening was a remarkable four-metre slab of Celery Top Pine, showcased prominently throughout the studio. Freshly recovered and expertly milled, its rich character, distinctive grain and unmistakable aroma quickly made it a focal point of conversation, inviting guests to experience firsthand the history, craftsmanship and natural beauty embedded within every piece.

Designed to Endure

A curated furniture exhibition by Dan Barker x Bricolage Studio complemented the launch, showcasing the versatility of Hydrowood's reclaimed timber across furniture, joinery and architectural applications.

Now part of Circa's curated collection, Hydrowood offers a premium Australian timber solution for flooring, linings, ceilings, joinery and custom furniture. Rich in character and backed by a remarkable sustainability story, it combines natural beauty with lasting performance.

For Circa and Bowens, the partnership reflects a shared commitment to sourcing materials with authenticity, longevity and purpose.
